This is one of the best, if not the best, John Hughes movie (The Breakfast Club is a close second). There is nothing like Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, and the beautiful Mia Sara, telling you to live life and enjoy the little things. I almost wish I had seen it during my High School Years (I admit I didn’t see this movie until 2006).
And that’s basically what the movie is about. Enjoying life! Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) fakes being sick and so his parents let him stay home. He has already missed too many days of school, this is the last time he can skip school and still graduate; and he plans to enjoy the day to its fullest.
He can’t do that without his best friend, Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), or his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara); so he recruits both of them! Although one of them is less excited about all the things Ferris has planned on their ‘Day Off’ from school, in the end it is obvious it’s the best day for all three of them.
I love that Matthew Broderick takes time to speak to us directly. He looks straight at you, and teaches you one of the most important lessons in life: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Have you seen this movie? What’s your favorite part?
